Metroid is a video game released for the Nintendo Entertainment Systems that features a bounty hunter named Samus Aran, enrolled to destroy the Space Pirates by the Galatic Federation. Metroid is a non-linear platformer, which Johnny likes. The game initially didn't sell well compared to others such as the Legend of Zelda, Duck hunt, Castlevania, and especially Super Mario Bros., tough Nintendo would release a sequel, titled Metroid II: Return of Samus, and even received an enhanced port on the Game Boy Advance, titled Metroid Zero Mission.

As the NES was growing stronger by the month, Nintendo descided to try to boost sales by releasing another franchise, Metroid. While the game received several rewards and praises, it was unpopular and didn't sell well. Despite this, Nintendo released another Metroid title on the Gameboy handheld.

Johnny included this game on his Month of Metroid as his kickstarter. He stated that while it had it's strong points, it was overall a mediocre title. Initialy, he didn't give a score to this game, but after reviewing Metroid II: Return of Samus, he felt that he needed to give a score to the game, grading it a 7.0/10. He would later review it's sequel and the enhanced port, Metroid Zero Mission.
